No one wants to go to school

After taking a break, I’m going back to school. But it fills me with dread. Every semester is an anxiety-inducing acid trip. A bad acid trip, where you have to go to work, do homework, take quizzes and feel the most stressed out you’ve ever felt in your life.

The Problems

People say school is stressful to prepare for your working life esp in majors where you deal with people’s lives. Nursing school is so hard for no reason, then when you actually go and become a nurse, it’s so much easier. You have resources: doctors, other nurses, the Internet, med resources, radiology, respiratory, dietitians, etc. Nothing is just you. School hits you with the everyone-for-themselves mentality. The tests are having you cram stuff in your head, which is unreasonable. Then you forget it right afterward because the experience was so stressful.

And the busy work. There must other ways to remember stuff than writing essays and discussion boards. And weird projects where you have to present stuff to the class. For me, presentations give me anxiety, I’m not sure about other people.

I think they make school super hard to weed people out, why else would it be so hard and stressful? I still think I have anxiety problems from school. Like it changed my entire body, and I just feel tense and stressed.

Reform in School

I think they just need to reform schooling, have more practical experiences and limit busy work. There should be some tests and quizzes but they shouldn’t be 70% of your grade. It should be like 30% and class participation should be 70%. I think you can learn everything you need without doing homework. You should just be able to listen in class, take notes and engage with your classmates and professor. That’s why we pay to be in the environment, not to teach ourselves.

In conclusion

If I become a professor, no one is getting any homework that is busy work. Maybe my homework will be 1 paragraph about how you feel about class every week. But there is no need for discussion posts, essays, or tests with more than 50 questions. Learning should be chill and relaxing, and not stressful. It’s like days where I’m on Wikipedia learning things and chilling. That’s how learning should be.
